Kia unveiled the 'Concept EV 5', a semi-mid-size electric sports utility vehicle (SUV), at the Kia EV Day held at the E-Sports Cultural Center in Shanghai, China on the 20th.

Kia said, "We plan to release a mass-produced car based on the concept EV5 in the Chinese market this year to provide Chinese customers with a different level of mobility experience."

The concept EV5 is characterized by the free use of space by applying a 'swiveling seat', a rotating seat. For example, if you rotate the front passenger seat and the back seat toward the door and open the door, it transforms into a state where you can enjoy the outside without obstructions. The trunk space, which can utilize tables and decks, breaks the boundary between inside and outside the vehicle.

Eco-friendly materials were applied to the interior of the vehicle. Bio-polyurethane containing raw materials extracted from seaweed was used for the seats and door armrests, and materials using recycled plastic were used for the fabric seats. The ‘Leather-Free’ design, which does not use animal skin throughout the interior of the vehicle, is also reflected.

Karim Habib, Head of Kia Global Design Center (Vice President), said, “Concept EV5 is a new concept EV with user-centered innovative interior and sensibility. It will inspire you,” he explained.
