What is the hymen for?
The evidence has reached the conclusion that the hymen does not have a clear, specific, or particular function and that it could rather be a redoubt of another organelle or of simple evolution.
It is more enigmatic that there are so many different types of hymen and that many women are born without them, does that mean they are not virgins?
No, on the other hand, there is a species, the complacent hymen, which is very elastic and does not break down no matter how many sexual relations one has. Is a woman with a complacent hymen a virgin, even if she has had many sexual relations?
On the other hand, it is striking that even in the 21st century it is associated with the subject of virginity. There was a phenomenon in schools in the US, where girls from Catholic schools, in order "not to lose their virginity before marriage", instead agreed to other practices that were not so heavily censored, such as oral and anal sex.
Would you say that a young woman who had oral and anal sex, who had masturbatory practices, is a "virgin"? Because they do have a hymen.
Apparently, the only function of the hymen is so that many men (and also some women, fortunately, less and less) continue to symbolize and sacralize a skin membrane.
